Privacy Policy

This privacy policy explains how Support Our Sport handles personal information when you use this website, contact us, send information or documents, or otherwise interact with Support Our Sport.

Who is responsible for your information

Support Our Sport is a grassroots, non-political initiative run by Claire Bagehot.

For privacy enquiries, contact claire@supportoursport.co.uk.

What information we may collect

We may collect:

Contact details you give us, such as your name and email address.

The contents of messages, questions, correspondence or documents you choose to send.

Information connected with an enquiry, issue, event, invitation, support or partnership discussion.

Technical information generated when you use the website, such as security logs, IP address, device or browser information and cookie choices, where applicable.

Information you choose to provide through surveys, tools or other Support Our Sport features. Where a separate notice is needed, it will be provided at the point of collection.

Sensitive information

Some correspondence about firearms licensing or related issues may contain sensitive personal information, including health information, details about other people, or other material that does not need to be shared with Support Our Sport.

Please do not send sensitive or personal information unless it is genuinely necessary for what you are asking us to do. If you send a letter or document, remove or redact information we do not need to see.

The general website contact form does not accept file uploads. If you need to send a document, please use the direct email address shown on the Contact page.

Why we use personal information

We may use personal information to read and respond to messages and enquiries; provide information or point people towards relevant resources or routes for action; assess information, evidence or sources sent to Support Our Sport; manage invitations, practical offers of help, support and partnership discussions; operate, secure and maintain the website; meet legal obligations where they apply; or establish, exercise or defend legal rights where necessary.

Our lawful bases

The lawful basis depends on why the information is being used.

For routine Support Our Sport contact and website administration, we may rely on legitimate interests, including running Support Our Sport, responding to people who contact us, maintaining the website and carrying out its grassroots information and community work.

Where processing is necessary to take steps at your request before entering an agreement, or to perform an agreement, contract may apply. Where the law requires processing, legal obligation may apply. Where consent is the appropriate basis, you can withdraw it.

Sensitive or ‘special category’ information requires an additional legal condition before it can be processed. Support Our Sport will avoid collecting this material unless it is genuinely needed and a valid condition applies. Sending sensitive information to Support Our Sport does not automatically mean that it can be used or published.

Information about other people

Please avoid sending personal information about somebody else unless it is necessary and you have a proper reason to do so.

If a document contains third-party details that Support Our Sport does not need, please redact them first.

Who information may be shared with

Support Our Sport will never sell personal information.

Information may be handled by service providers needed to run the website, email and related systems, acting under their own terms or as processors where applicable.

Information may also be disclosed where required by law, to protect legal rights, or with professional advisers where genuinely necessary.

International transfers

Some technology providers may process information outside the UK. Where this happens, Support Our Sport will use providers and transfer arrangements intended to meet applicable UK data-protection requirements.

How long we keep information

We keep personal information only for as long as it is reasonably needed for the purpose for which it was collected. This may include responding to an enquiry, keeping an appropriate record, managing an ongoing relationship, maintaining evidence where there is a legitimate reason to do so, or meeting legal requirements.

Information will be deleted or anonymised when it is no longer needed.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, UK data-protection law may give you rights to ask for access to your personal information, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or to object to certain processing.

Where processing is based on consent, you can withdraw that consent.

To make a privacy request, email claire@supportoursport.co.uk. We may need enough information to confirm your identity before acting on a request.

Complaints about data protection

If you have concerns about how Support Our Sport has handled your personal information, please contact us first so we can try to resolve the issue.

You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

Cookies

The website may use cookies or similar technologies. Please see the Cookie Policy for details and controls.

Changes to this policy

This policy will be reviewed when the website, Support Our Sport’s activities or the services used to run them change. The current version will be published on the website.
